1) General information
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mad Poet is a program which creates poems. Er... yes. That's right.
POEMS! If you ever feel un-inspired and want to have some words of
wisdom, you can call the Mad Poet. If you go in school, and your
teacher wants you to write a poem to the next week, I would prefer
that you DON'T use his words. Not because of any copyright reasons,
but the Mad Poets words shouldn't be taken too seriously.

With the words included in the .MP files, The Mad Poet can create over
200 MILLION different poems. Enough? :-)

The words it uses are stored as ASCII, so you can edit and save your
own lists, from where The Mad Poet constructs it's poems. Check out
chapter four in this manual, for more info about the file format. It's
VERY easy!

I hope you enjoy it. At least for some time. I had _really_ funny when
I wrote it.

Cheers!

Carl Lofgren - 6 June 1994 and the time is... 22:15.

2) Freeware
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mad Poet, is Freeware. That means that you freely can spead the
program to your friends and BBS:es. PDL:s are welcome to use the
program in their libraries. Do what you want with it. Use it, erase
it, spread it, but DON'T charge any money for it.

3) The files
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In this package you should find following files :

	MAD_POET.PRG...... The program itself.
MAD_HIGH.RSC...... The resource file for high-resolution.
	MAD_MEDI.RSC...... The resource for medium-resolution.
        DOCUMENT/MAD_POET.TXT This file.
DOCUMENT/READ_ME.NOW Information about my other programs.
MAD_POET/WORDS_1.MP.. Words used by The Mad Poet.
MAD_POET/WORDS_2.MP.. Words used by The Mad Poet.
MAD_POET/WORDS_3.MP.. Words used by The Mad Poet.
MAD_POET/WORDS_4.MP.. Words used by The Mad Poet.
MAD_POET/WORDS_5.MP.. Words used by The Mad Poet.
MAD_POET/WORDS_6.MP.. Words used by The Mad Poet.
MAD_POET/WORDS_7.MP.. Words used by The Mad Poet.

You might wonder why I have two different resource-files, and the main
reason is that it didn't look that very nice in high-resolution, so I
made the high-resolution resource-file a bit more compact. I don't
like when applications use 98.98% of the available screen space.

4) The file format
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In the directory MAD_POET you can find seven .MP files. In these files
all words are stored, in plain ASCII. You can easily edit them to suit
your own needs, and language.

There are just some very simple rules to keep in mind.

	a) The first row contains a value, that tells the program how
many words there are in the file.

	b) The maximum number of rows in a .MP file is limited to
	   100. This should be enough for most poets...:-)

        c) The last row MUST be a empty row.

	d) The first row in the poem is built from WORDS_1.MP and
WORDS_2.MP. The second row is built from WORDS_3.MP and
WORDS_4.MP, and finally the third is built from WORDS_5.MP,
	   WORDS_6.MP and WORDS_7.MP.

	e) The maximum length of a row in the poem-page is limited to
41 characters. PLEASE DON'T push it beyond that. Strange
	   stuff could happen.

If you still have questions, you could contact me (read chapter 9 for
more info where you can find me), but check out the .MP files before,
you can learn how they are built by looking at them.

5) Program/Accessory modes
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mad Poet works both as a PROGRAM and as an ACCESSORY. Just change
the PRG extension to ACC, and vice versa.

6) Test equipment and programs
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The program has been whipped, mashed, squeezed, wrapped, and tested on
following equipment :

	Model TOS Memory Notes
      -----------------------------------------------
        STe	1.062	2.5MB
TT	3.06	20MB ST RAM and TT RAM.

7) Bugs and restrictions
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well. Bugs? Not what I can find at least. If you find any, please let
me know and I try to get rid of them.

The only restriction I can see here is, that if it can't find the
resource-file (.RSC) it will exit. The resources MUST be from where
The Mad Poet runs. And the same goes for the words files (.MP) files.
The folder MAD_POET MUST be in the same directory as the main program.
If it can't find the words, it will give you error 33 (file not
found).

8) Phuture developments
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't have any plans for it at all. Maybe release a cople of new .MP
files, but unless someone brilliant person has any good idea, I won't
develop it any further. It's already enough expandable by the user.
