PLEASE READ THIS, THANKS!

Important notes for users of this software:

For all users:

The X resource file for mxv needs to be named "MiXViews" (exactly that), and
must be installed in either a public place:

/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults
<IV-installed-dir>/lib/app-defaults (if you compiled mxv yourself)

...or in your home directory if you alone are using mxv.

In order to get MiXViews to look for its resource file in
/usr/lib/X11/app-defaults, you need to add a line to your .login or .cshrc file:

setenv XAPPLRESDIR /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults

This is a workaround for a small bug in the X toolkit I use (InterViews).
If you have InterViews 3.2, you will not need this fix.

----

For NeXT users:

This program runs under the X window system, not under
NextStep. You will need to install X on your machine if you wish to use this
program. Check in pub on this archive for more information about this. This
binary will only run on m68k machines until such time as a stable X server is
available for the NS/I, and sound cards are widely in use as well (tell me if
this is already the case!)

----

For SPARC users:

Mxv will convert sounds on SPARC 1+, 2, LX, 5, 10, and 20 machines.

For the LX and 10, you *MUST* add the following to your environment:

setenv MXV_SPARC_10 YES

and for SPARC 5's and 20's (yes, I mean 5's too):

setenv MXV_SPARC_20 YES

...or else sounds will not play and record properly.

----

For SGI users:

The tarfiles in the binaries subdir are compressed using gzip. You will need
gunzip to uncompress them. The source for gzip is available on many archives
as one of many GNU software items, and it is public domain.
